Before 1786 the Ramaytush Ohlone had a village called Pruristac on the site. The Portolá expedition camped about a mile west of it from October 31 to November 3, 1769. (Wikipedia)
In 1786 Mission Dolores built an outpost here, and Francisco Sánchez, commandante of the San Francisco Presidio, built his adobe on the same ground between 1842 and 1846. (Wikipedia)
The house is California Historical Landmark 391 and a National Register site. San Mateo County bought it in 1947, and the San Mateo County History Museum runs it today, with free admission. Each September the city holds Rancho Days here. (Wikipedia)
