Pacifica State Beach is a crescent about three-quarters of a mile long, at the mouth of the San Pedro Valley, and more than a million people visit it each year. It is one of the most popular beginner surfing spots in the San Francisco area. (Wikipedia)
Between 1989 and 2005 the beach was restored alongside San Pedro Creek’s flood-control project. In 2002 two oceanside homes were bought and removed for $2.2 million so the beach and estuary could recover. The beach shelters the western snowy plover, and the World Dog Surfing Championships have been held here since 2016. (Wikipedia)
The Taco Bell across from the sand is reputed to be the world’s most scenic. It was built in the late 1960s as an A&W and was allowed to stay when California’s Proposition 20 barred new building west of Highway 1 in 1972. (Wikipedia)
