Ocean Shore Railroad

The 1905–1920 line meant to connect San Francisco and Santa Cruz, whose motto was “It reaches the Beaches!”

The Ocean Shore Railroad was meant to link San Francisco and Santa Cruz. The 1906 earthquake and financial trouble stopped it, and it ran only as two separate segments between 1905 and 1920. Several of Pacifica’s communities began as its stops.

The Pacifica Historical Society is restoring the only surviving Ocean Shore passenger car, and records that the motto was “It reaches the Beaches!”. Highway 1 at Mori Point runs through a cut first meant for the railroad.
