The L-shaped pier juts a quarter mile into the Pacific. It was built in 1973 as part of the city’s sewer system and carried a 28-inch pipe for treated wastewater until a new treatment plant opened in 2004. Since then it has been used for fishing and crabbing, and is famous for salmon runs: over 1,000 were caught from it on July 8-9, 1995. It is also a good place to watch whales during their migrations.
The pier was closed indefinitely in June 2026 after a crack in the concrete walkway, and as of late August 2026 the city was waiting on funding for repairs.
