The Taco Bell on the beach side of Highway 1 at Linda Mar was built in the late 1960s and first operated as an A&W. California’s Proposition 20 (1972) barred new buildings west of Highway 1, but the restaurant was grandfathered in.
Conde Nast Traveler listed it among the world’s most scenic fast-food restaurants in the 1990s. In 2019 it was renovated with a fireplace and began serving alcohol, and in 2020 it went viral on TikTok. The Pacifica Historical Society calls it the world’s most beautiful Taco Bell.
