Rockaway Beach

A curved embayment and shopping-and-dining strip in south Pacifica, beside the old Rockaway Quarry.

Rockaway Beach lies in a gently curving embayment about 7 miles south of San Francisco, with a scenic overlook and a cluster of restaurants and shops, many from the city’s 1986 redevelopment plan. Nick’s Seafood Restaurant is the oldest; the Moonraker was long known for night views of waves at its foundation.

Each year on the first Sunday of December the Chamber of Commerce holds the Rockaway Beach Tree Lighting Ceremony here, steps from the ocean. The Ohlone village of Timigtac stood about half a mile away on Calera Creek.
